Rebecca: Startup Mentor, GIRLSRUN Leader

Name: Rebecca Jansson

Age: 27

City: Stockholm, Sweden

Main Hustle: I am starting up and running a new business unit, Analytics, with the main focus being bank and finance. We’re now growing into the retail and real estate market. I love making ideas to reality, creating long-term partnerships, and I always focus on personal development to enable and ensure great leadership for the team. Innovation, diversity, vision, and never, ever giving up are all very important in my hustling.

Side Hustle: Entrepreneurship, FEMALE EMPOWERMENT, Personal development. Encouraging female power in the finance and analytics industry, as well as leading GIRLSRUN, a female empowering network by Adidasrunners.

I am also mentoring a fin-tech startup as my side hustle. I love to roll up my sleeves and work hard!

How did you get started?: I have always loved to break the norms and try things no one would try or believe possible because it “doesn’t fit in society.” From there I got lots of my force. My second is courage—courage to “fail.”

You must have the COURAGE to try new things; either you win or you learn!

I have always listened to my heart. I got my master’s degree in financial statistics, where I realized finance is my passion. I only knew this because I dared to enroll in that master’s program, because I thought it was interesting while all my other study-friends went for another master’s degree. After graduation I got the opportunity to start this Analytics unit, because I knew what I wanted to achieve.

When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: Every day & everywhere. Female empowerment is in everything I do. Because I think we need to take more space. I show this on Instagram and in my real life with friends, family, and colleagues.
At work I always find and work on new ideas to make our company more competitive and make our colleagues grow.
I write in a diary every day for my personal development, and I read books to get more knowledge in life.

Entrepreneurship is built through events and meet and discussing new ideas with other powerful women I am inspired by!

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: I want to change the world and make it a better place all at once, which makes me want to move too fast sometimes. But I try to see it as a gift, because in the end that is my force to make a difference.

To schedule rest, recreation, and time to recharge is so extremely important to keep your focus and reach your goals. When you live for making a change, recreation is sometimes a time-challenge.

The doubt. As much as I believe in myself and my work and hustling, some days I doubt my big dreams and definitely people around will doubt you. But then I always focus on remembering my core purpose.

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: The people. To make and see people grow and society become better. make this world more equal.

Who is your greatest supporter?: My mother. EVERY DAY. ALWAYS. Wisest person on earth, after the Dalai Lama 🙂 She supports me in my crazy, big dreams all the time, and she is the most humble and kind person I know, who appreciates the smallest things in life. She has taught us to never judge, embrace our feelings, and always reflect about life.

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: Female leaders and entrepreneurs in finance and tech industry! Networking has been a great source for me. Ishtar Touailat is one of my greatest inspiration leaders and entrepreneurs.

Have you received recognition for your work?: Nominated “Best Master Thesis of Handelsbanken 2018” and the only female finalist in that master thesis banking award.

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: Start a company where the business idea includes making society better and more equal.

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?: GO FOR IT! Work hard and STOP BEING PERFECT. Keep your priorities in check, work efficiently, and step out of your comfort zone all the time to move closer to your goal. Also follow your passion; it will inspire you, rather than make you tired.

Persistence is the key for success. If you want to be within the 1%, you must focus on your goal every single day and in everything you do. If you meet obstacles, you hustle and you hustle and you hustle until you find a way to succeed!
