Name: Monika Patel
City: Chattanooga, TN
Main Hustle: FizeoTherapy: Spending enough time with people to hear their story and how it affects their body’s movement, pain, and performance is key to why I started FizeoTherapy. I also wanted to give people the option to be seen in the comfort of their homes or in a clinical setting, since environment plays such a key role in success. I treat people with neurologic, orthopedic, and pelvic health conditions in a direct, fee-for-service model that allows me to treat holistically.
So I started my independent physical therapy practice in January of 2019 and have been so amazed by how kind, supportive, and welcoming the business community of Chattanooga has been.
Side Hustle: FizeoWellness: Once people have gotten the momentum to heal pain or injury, then the work of lifestyle change and maintenance can come to play. Hence, FizeoWellness. Here I apply my Strength and Conditioning Specialty (CSCS) and offer continual exercise programming, golf performance screenings, training the body for pregnancy and delivery programs, as well as group exercise classes (FizeoFit) to work the often overlooked muscle groups in traditional gym settings. Also I’m big on injury prevention, so this allows me to work with people before injury or disease occurs!
How did you get started?: I listened to PT entrepreneur podcasts for a year, established and learned from two female PT entrepreneurs for another year, and then took the leap!
When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: Chattanooga, TN (with plans to offer virtual consulting nationwide here soon!).
What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: Balancing non-patient care time of networking and building an online presence.
What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: Infinite!
Patients are getting better in 2-4 visits, lasting connections are being built, and I am able to spend more quality time with my family, while also making a sustainable income.
Who is your greatest supporter?: My hubby, Pranav. He watches our 5 month old son while I see patients or do continuing education, and gives feedback on business structure and design.
Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?:
My childhood piano teacher. She lived across the street from me growing up, and I was always amazed by her ingenuity and creativity–her piano lessons weren’t just piano lessons. They were also dance parties, opportunities to play virtual duets with someone across the world, and lessons in self-awareness.
What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: I’d love to expand into telehealth!
