Name: Julie Saillant
City: Myrtle Beach, SC
Main Hustle: I work as a software recruiter and place sales reps, engineers, directors, and VPs all across the country.
Side Hustle: I am a lifestyle blogger, speaker, certified life coach, and equine communicator. I write and am starting a podcast series, as well. My gifts are centered around being a highly intuitive, empathic person which means I can feel your feelings and know your true desires, even if you can’t or don’t want to acknowledge them.
How did you get started?: I was born very sensitive and empathic. My grandmother was gifted, and I have the same gene. I have always been super sensitive to both people and animals. I can feel your pain and understand what you don’t say—I just feel things on a different level. I have never fit in anywhere professionally because I get bored quickly. I had a friend who sent her husband to me for help with his career. After 30 minutes we were able to give him a clear path to his dream job. My friend called me and said, “What did you do to my husband?!” I thought, “Oh no! What did I do?” She said, “He is a completely different person. Thank you.” I have always been able to talk to animals and it was a natural progression to start telling horse owners what their horses were saying.
When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, and just moved here from Connecticut. I had to move to a warmer climate so I can ride my horse more. I work out of my house and that way I am easily remote. I work on my business as much as possible, and I have hired an equestrian PR team to promote me and handle all of my social media. I write my blogs and quotes, but they post for me.
What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?:
My biggest goal is to help people be motivated to really live this life on their terms, because for so many years I didn’t.
The other part of that is my passion for horses, and I want to be known as a huge equine influencer—meaning I want to partner with brands like Gucci and Hermes who have been horse supporters in the past. I would like to marry the brands with the cause and travel to see the houses and fashion shows.
The challenge is that there is no one out there like me, or no one doing it on the scale that I want to. So I am being a trailblazer and making it up as I go along. I figure there are no rules; just be authentic and use your voice. The challenge is I make mistakes, but that’s the fun part, right? I’m not the girl that will show you what outfit I am wearing. I’m the girl who will show you how to change your life and make it worth living. Boom!
What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: For people: getting to help them and give them a clear path to get where they want to go. For many it’s just giving them the validation that Yes! You can do it!
For equestrians: it’s actually speaking with the horses. Every horse gives me the same look; usually their eyes get really big and their head comes up. They look at me like, “You can hear me?!” It’s pretty cool. Being the bridge between animals and people is amazing— you just need to be very careful and say exactly what the horses tell you.
You need to honor the gifts you have and then allow them to grow. Nurture them.
Who is your greatest supporter?: My dad was my biggest supporter, but I lost him just one year ago and that has been hard. My sister is a huge supporter, and without that it would be really difficult.
Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: My dad was my inspiration. My dad was a teacher and videographer who won tons of awards. His biggest awards were three Telly awards, which are like the Oscars for his work. He was really talented at writing, directing, etc. He made it look effortless when it wasn’t. He has always been my hero.
What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: My dream is to work with brands to raise awareness and funds to save horses’ lives.
My goal is to give people the motivation to live their dream life by waking them up to their infinite possibilities.
The other goal I have is to offer those who have never worked with horses, let them know how much horses can heal you. I started a documentary, and I want to finish that up. I will continue to write, speak, and offer retreats—lots of goodies coming up this year. It’s not so much about showcasing me but about helping you and helping the horses get seen for the amazing creatures they are. Anytime I can involve art with a project, I’m down for it. I write, draw, etc., and would love to feature other artists and use it as a collective to help animals.
Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?: Yes!
Don’t give up. This is a long journey. There have been times where I have given up and I have stopped, but I have always had these gifts and this dream inside me. If you have a dream, it was put there so YOU could make it come true. If not you, then who? You have to believe in yourself and that you can do it. Stay grounded, use every tool you have: meditation, mantras, affirmations, listen to positive music, etc. Stay with it, and in time it will happen. Don’t give up on yourself; you’re worth your weight in gold.
