Giana: Motherhood Blogger

Name: Giana Vasconcellos

Age: 31

City: Redlands, CA

Main Hustle: My main hustle is a full-time job at a private university in Admissions Advising. I help students seeking higher education to fulfill their outcomes in their career paths and onboard them for success. I’ve been with this university for 6 years!

Side Hustle: Although I have your standard “9-5”, my passion is in writing and creating content to evoke inspiration for other mothers to tap into simplifying life to enjoy the little moments. I run a blog that holds the content I produce, and I currently post and work in the site to build valuable content and create a hub for other working mamas to help keep their inspiration thriving.

How did you get started?: I started blogging back in 2007 in college! I was on blogspot back then and then stopped when I finished school and working full time. One day when I was up at 3am nursing my 3-day-old son, I missed writing. So I made my WordPress site and wrote the first post in years.

When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: I work on my blog between 9pm-12am because that’s the only time my sweet 3-year-old is asleep for the night! I find a good spot on my couch and get the laptop.

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: A lot of the challenges I have are related to motivation. It is incredibly tiring to have 15 hour days, including work and momming. By the time I get to my “me time,” I’m exhausted. So it takes a lot of discipline to be consistent since I do want the site to grow.

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: Rewards are satisfaction and creative outlet. Doing something I love. For me. Also the fact that I can reach women who can think, “Wow, me too.”

Who is your greatest supporter?: My greatest supporter is my husband. He sees that I need that time for me and sees that it’s my passion and really encourages me and helps me actually make the time to dedicate to it.

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?: My inspiration is other women seeking community. Seeking other voices that sound different but seek the same outcomes.

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: My dream would be to have my blog reach a large community of women as a hub for inspiration and a space to just be. I would also like to branch out and create day planners and eventually a book based off owning your time.

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?: Be true to you. Do not emulate anyone else. Only you can offer the gift you’re given. Be disciplined and consistent.
