Alyssa: Para-Dressage Rider, Social Media Influencer

Name: Alyssa Cleland

Age: 21

City: Dallas, Texas

Main Hustle: I work a 9-5 job at a land surveying company. Pretty low-key and uninteresting!

Side Hustle: I’m a Para-Dressage rider and am working on becoming a social media influencer/ YouTuber! I really want to make a better life for myself and break out of the 9-5, paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, and I know that this is the way to do it. With horseback riding, it’s a little different as I want to go to the Paralympics and compete competitively!

How did you get started?: I’ve been riding my entire life just for fun until about a year ago when I got serious and started competing.

The influencer thing is just starting, and I’m kind of paving my own path. I’m taking all the tips and tricks that will make this journey incredible!

When/where do you work on your Side Hustle?: I ride in the evenings and the weekends.Β With my influencer thing, I usually take pictures in advance on the weekends when I have the whole day.

What are the challenges of your Side Hustle?: As a Para-Dressage rider, it’s definitely time and money. Horses are super expensive, and everything can add up really quickly!

As an influencer, it’s my lack of patience. I’m ready to be financially independent and work toward my other goals without having to spend time going to work everyday.

What are the rewards of your Side Hustle?: Well, the satisfaction that I’m inspiring and encouraging others to go for what they want to do in life!

Who is your greatest supporter?: Definitely my boyfriend and family! He’s my rock at the moment, since he sees all the ups and downs. And my family is always there to help me if I need them!

Who/what is your greatest source of inspiration?:

Me, myself, and I! You’re not going to get anything done if you don’t believe in yourself!

But I do aspire to be like Aspyn Ovard and Lauren Scruggs-Kennedy.

Have you received recognition for your work? I’m currently working with an equine marketing company to help my para-dressage career launch, and I hope I get some sponsors!

What is your dream for your Side Hustle?: I just want to be able to do whatever I want to do with no one to tell me I can’t! I want to see the world, be an Annual Passholder at Walt Disney World, and own a really nice equestrian facility.

Do you have any advice for others working on a Side Hustle?: Keep at it? I feel like I still need advice at this stage!

I know SOMEDAY I’m going to get there. And when I do, it’s going to be AWESOME!
